We teach as low as 6 months old. Getting started with lessons as early as possible is always recommended as it allows for us to build that bond and trust during the early stages. We strive to keep our lessons full of fun and focus on building comfort and confidence in the water. A happy child who is comfortable with their instructor will be much more likely to attempt the basic survival skills and retain them than a swimmer that is forced into it quickly through fear and intimidation.
See our Blog for more information on the benefits of learning to swim for all ages
Think about learning other tasks as both a child and an adult.
How long does it take to learn how to walk?
How long does it take to become potty trained?
How long does it take to learn how to ride a bike?
How long does it take to learn to read?
How long does it take to learn to play guitar?
How long does it take to learn a new language?
Every person learns at different rates and in different ways depending on the individuals strengths, weaknesses and needs. It takes time, repetition, and consistent practice to develop complicated skills. The more frequent you practice, the sooner you pick up the skills.
Our instructors highlight 5 main goals that the swimmer needs to focus on during their classes, this is not to say other skills wont be worked on. These will be outlined on their Hero Goal Cards and when completed will earn a sticker. Once all stickers are complete the swimmer will get a Hero Photo Shoot and get to take their Goal Card home. At the next scheduled lesson the swimmer will receive a new Goal Card with new goals to achieve.
Goal Cards are a great way to track the swimmer progress, stay focused on the objectives at hand and allow the swimmer to receive a reward for their hard work. The more pride our swimmers have in their achievements, the more they want to achieve.
Our instructors are highly experienced helping all aged swimmers through their fears or anxieties. Allowing time to create a bond/trust with their instructor will help move the process of learning along faster. Our instructors focus firstly on building that connection with their swimmers, learning their likes and dislikes and finding common ground, building that foundation so trust can be formed and our swimmers can then feel comfortable and willing to move forward with our program! If this means spending the first few lessons on the steps, playing with toys and working towards no tears and no fears then so be it!
Our program is NOT ISR. Learning the basic survival skills is our main goal, we just allow each swimmer to build their confidence and get comfortable with the water at the same time!
The skills we teach are the same, however our teaching strategies are different.
We ask that if you are aware of an upcoming cancellation please inform us as soon as possible. We will do our best to reschedule your lesson for a make up and will allow for us to do the same for others.
Please see our policy page below for more information!
Payment is due by your first lesson.
We accept:
Receipts are sent via email on a weekly basis.
Once we have you booked in our schedule for your lessons we will send you an email confirmation that will allow you to have this placed on your email calendar. Here you can set up notifications to remind you of our lesson and see any updates that are made.
After each lesson is completed it will be updated the next day to show how many lessons have been completed for that payment cycle.
Example: Suzanne Torres 2/8
Showing that this lesson is number 2 out of 8 paid lessons, which equals 6 lessons left until a new payment is due. Cancelled/rescheduled lessons will be updated to show that this was cancelled or rescheduled. ONLY completed lessons will show these numbers.
All students must wear appropriate swimwear. It is mandatory that all non-toilet trained swimmers, regardless of age, wear a swim diaper. Children who are under age 4, newly potty-trained or not potty-trained must also wear a permanent swim diaper. A permanent swim diaper is a washable, reusable diaper that has elastic at the waist and the legs. Bowel movements in the pool can be a health hazard and may force us to cancel classes. Do not substitute: plastic training pants or regular diapers of any kind.
Any student that has hair long enough to get in their eyes, face or mouth is required to pull hair back and secure or wear a swim cap. This enhances the comfort of our swimmers.
Your swimmer will also want a towel and water to rehydrate after class.
Swim suit and towel is all that's needed for every lesson. Your instructor will provide all necessary equipment for your lessons! If you would like to purchase the equipment that we utilize during our lessons so you can practice at home you can find it at the link below!
Attend lessons at least twice per week, consistency is key in retaining the skills learned during our time together in the water!
Communicate with your instructor, keep updated on skills being learnt and ask any questions you might have! Watch the classes and discuss any skills that are recommended to work on at home! Some of our techniques can be tricky to teach and require more experience, however there are ALOT of things you can do at home to help your little swimmer become a more confident version of themselves!
Allow your instructor to handle difficult situations, it may be hard at times but sometimes crying or getting upset is a part of the process. Allowing our instructors the opportunity to handle most in water situations that arise will allow them to build a mutual respect and understanding. We understand that everyone can have a bad day, their job is to try to turn it around and make potentially negative situations into positives or at least learning opportunities.
Arrive at class 10 minutes early, this will pave the way for a positive experience from start to finish. Both the instructor and the swimmer can avoid feeling rushed and you can ensure you get the entirety of your lesson!
Promote Positivity! A lot of our swimmers want nothing more than to "show off." Being their poolside cheerleaders and allowing us to celebrate even the smallest of achievements will spark something inside them to strive for more!
Once the session is complete, don’t just stop! Enroll your child into the next session, so that they can continue the ongoing process of becoming a SWIM HERO!
Our 30 minute lessons allow for swimmers to focus on multiple aspects of our program while incorporating fun and games. Our lessons are tailored to each swimmer individually, allowing for them to progress through our program at their own pace while encouraging them to reach their goals.
In water time usually runs up to 25 minutes and allows for catch up/reward time at the end of each class lasting approximately 5 minutes.
We do all we can to accommodate siblings and sometimes even friends who want to swim back to back lessons! Make sure you inform us of this request as soon as possible and we will do our best to make this happen!
We love to see siblings cheering each other on and sometimes allow siblings to have playtime together, it can be a great bargaining tool for a lot of our little ones!
YES! As instructors we value the bond and connection we make with our swimmers and the impact it has on their learning! We keep all our swimmers with their originally scheduled instructor unless otherwise requested to switch.
